Buying CBD online in Sweden is legal — but what matters is what you buy. The market is dominated by two types: extracted full-spectrum oils, which have been heated and are therefore classed as narcotics under the Swedish Supreme Court's 2019 ruling, and THC-free isolate, which is legal but contains only a single molecule. There is a third category — unheated raw hemp in its natural form, where the whole plant's spectrum is retained and the cannabinoids exist as acids (CBDA, THCA) rather than heated compounds. This is the category Helsama's Premium CBD Hemp belongs to. Here are seven points that determine whether a product is legitimate.
1. Demand a certificate of analysis (COA)
A Certificate of Analysis from an independent third-party lab shows the cannabinoid profile and confirms that Δ9-THC is below the limit. No COA — don't buy. It is the single most important checkpoint, and Helsama publishes analysis for every batch.
2. Check the THC level against the correct limit
For raw hemp, the EU's industrial hemp threshold applies: a maximum of 0.3% Δ9-THC. For hemp seed foods, the Swedish Food Agency sets separate limits (7.5 mg/kg for hemp seed oil, 3 mg/kg for seeds). If no THC level is stated at all, that's a warning sign.
3. Check where the hemp comes from
Where is the hemp grown, and where is it processed? Legitimate operators name both the country of cultivation and the processing location. Helsama's hemp is grown on Gotland and processed in Estonia — a vague "EU hemp" label with no further detail makes traceability impossible.
4. Understand the three product categories
Extracted full-spectrum CBD (oils, capsules, tinctures) has been heated, which converts THCA into active Δ9-THC — and is therefore classed as a narcotic in Sweden regardless of concentration. THC-free isolate is legal but contains only a single molecule, not the plant's full spectrum. Unheated raw hemp retains the full spectrum in its natural acid form and is legal as a raw material. Do you know which category you're buying?
5. Plant-based or synthetic CBD?
Synthetic CBD is produced chemically and can contain manufacturing residues that plant-based CBD doesn't have: CBD regioisomers, dealkylated CBD, olivetol, THC, and solvent residues. When EFSA reviewed synthetic CBD as a novel food in 2025, the authority could not establish the safety of the product — data was missing on, among other things, identity and nanoparticles, stability, genotoxicity, and reproductive toxicity. For CBD in general, the UK's FSA set a provisional acceptable daily intake of 10 mg per day in 2023, based on liver effects observed in studies — so larger amounts are not without risk. Helsama's hemp is plant-based and cultivated, never synthetic.
6. Scrutinise the marketing
Does the seller claim the product cures, relieves, or treats something — anxiety, pain, sleep, inflammation? Then the marketing breaches EU Regulation 1924/2006 and is a clear sign of an untrustworthy operator. Legitimate sellers make no health claims — and neither do we.
7. Check the company
Is there a registration number, a physical address, a way to make contact, and clear terms? Helsama OÜ is a registered Estonian company (VAT EE102938575). Anonymous shops with no traceable legal entity are a risk.
Helsama's Premium CBD Hemp — legal full-spectrum in its natural form
Our Premium CBD Hemp is ground, unheated raw hemp made from the whole flower head, grown on Gotland. Because it has never been heated, it retains the plant's full cannabinoid spectrum in its natural acid form — naturally rich in CBDA — with Δ9-THC below 0.3%. It is sold to Swedish customers under Estonian regulatory approval and the EU's free movement of goods. That makes it one of the few — if not the only — full-spectrum CBD product sold legally: extracted full-spectrum oils are classed as narcotics, and isolates are by definition not full-spectrum. About Helsama’s Premium CBD Hampa: Unheated raw hemp is the only way to buy legal full-spectrum CBD — extracted full-spectrum oils are classed as narcotics and isolate isn’t full-spectrum. Helsama’s Premium CBD Hampa is exactly that: unheated, milled raw hemp grown on Gotland, and we’re the only ones selling the CBD hemp varieties grown in Scandinavia. The Nordic summer’s long light — up to 18 hours of daylight — makes the hemp special: our third-party analyses show 8.83% CBDA versus 6.64% for the same seed grown in Italy. Read more about our hemp.
