Homemade hemp seed butter is great on crackers, among other things, and is perfect as a dip for vegetables! Naturally gluten-free and nut-free, making it a great option even for those with allergies.
The possibilities are endless when making hemp seed butter at home. Not only can you use a sweetener to add more flavour, here are some other additions that are tasty and healthy.
Chocolate – Add cocoa powder for a more chocolatey flavour. The chocolate version also goes well with fruit!
Cinnamon – Stir in a little cinnamon with the recipe version or with the cocoa powder for another delicious flavour. Simply add all the ingredients to your food processor or blender.
How to make the hemp seed butter sweeter
Hemp seed butter has a light nutty flavour, so some like to make it sweeter so they can add it to their yoghurt bowls, porridge, smoothies, etc. If you're one of them, you can sweeten it by stirring in pure maple syrup or honey.
You can always add your favourite herbs and spices, cheese, or even a bit of garlic-infused olive oil, then use it as a spread on crackers.
This recipe makes about 2.5 dl of hemp seed butter, so it might not last long! Feel free to double the batch! Store in an airtight container in the pantry or fridge for up to a month. Be sure to stir well before serving.
Ingredients
2.5 dl shelled hemp seeds
½ tsp kosher salt
Optional: 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
Pour the hemp seeds and salt into a food processor or blender and turn on to process.
When the hemp seeds start to break down, stop the blender and scrape down the sides.
Continue processing the butter in the blender, adding oil until the butter is smooth and creamy, or to the desired consistency.
