Hemp seed pizza (pizza with hemp seeds) is a variation on ordinary pizza with a nutty note, where you can use hemp seeds in the dough, as a topping, or both. Here is a simple recipe suggestion:
For the pizza dough:
1.4 dl lukewarm water
25 g fresh yeast or 1 tsp dried yeast
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
4 dl plain flour (or mix with graham/wholemeal flour)
0.5 dl hulled hemp seeds
For the topping (example):
Tomato sauce (chopped tomatoes, garlic, oregano)
Mozzarella or vegan cheese
Fresh vegetables: pepper, red onion, courgette
Fresh baby spinach or rocket
2 tbsp hulled hemp seeds as a topping after baking
Method:
Dough: Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water. Add the oil, salt and hemp seeds. Work in the flour and knead into a smooth dough. Leave to rise under a tea towel for 30–45 minutes.
Shape: Roll out the dough into a round pizza shape on a sheet of baking paper.
Topping: Spread the tomato sauce over the base. Add the cheese and your chosen vegetables.
Bake: In a 225°C oven for about 10–15 minutes, until the pizza has taken on a nice colour.
After baking: Sprinkle over extra hemp seeds and, if you like, fresh rocket.
Why hemp seeds?
Hemp seeds give the dough a fine nutty flavour, and sprinkled over after baking they add a light, crisp bite.
