Short answer: Helsama processes hemp from Gotland into CBDA-rich flower powder — our Premium CBD Hampa. We buy Swedish-grown hemp from the island and process it. Independent lab analysis (HPLC-UV) shows that the exact same hemp seed grown on Gotland contains 8.83% CBDA versus 6.64% grown in Italy — around 33% more. Most hemp on the market is imported from southern Europe; Helsama goes the opposite way and starts from Swedish soil.
Who sells hemp and CBD from Gotland?
The question comes up more often than the supply answers it. Most CBD and hemp products in Sweden are based on raw material grown in southern Europe and imported here. Helsama is the company that starts from hemp grown on Gotland. We are not growers — we buy Swedish-grown hemp from the island and process it. That's an important distinction: the origin is Gotland, the processing is our craft.
What makes hemp from Gotland different?
Two things: the light and the bedrock.
The long daylight hours of the Nordic summer and the clean growing environment give, according to our own analyses, a higher CBDA content than the same seed grown further south. CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the raw, unheated form of CBD that the plant itself forms in the living flower.
And beneath the field lies Gotland's limestone — formed in a tropical coral reef 419–428 million years ago. It gives the island's soils an unusual mineral profile and good drainage. The minerals are tools for the plant, not magic: a well-balanced, well-drained soil is a prerequisite for a healthy crop. This is terroir in the geological sense — the same idea used in wine, applied to hemp.
Gotland vs Italy: same seed, different results
The most concrete evidence is a comparison of identical hemp seed grown in two locations and analysed independently using the same method (HPLC-UV):
| Growing location | CBDA (% w/w) | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Gotland, Sweden (Helsama) | 8.83 | HPLC-UV |
| Italy (reference) | 6.64 | HPLC-UV |
Difference: +33% CBDA for the Swedish-grown raw material. Same genetics, different climate. See the full cannabinoid panel and download the raw data on our open lab data page. The analysis is also published as a scientific note with a DOI (Zenodo, CC BY 4.0): 10.5281/zenodo.21250892.
What Helsama makes from the Gotland hemp
From the Swedish-grown Gotland hemp, we process our CBDA-rich Premium CBD Hampa — an unheated flower powder milled from the hemp's flower parts, with the full cannabinoid profile shown by the lab analysis. We hold exclusive Scandinavian rights to the varieties behind the flower powder, grown on Swedish soil instead of imported from southern Europe.

Where does Helsama's hemp come from?
From Gotland. We buy Swedish-grown hemp from the island and process it. Helsama is a processor and retailer, not a grower.
Is Swedish hemp better than imported hemp?
On at least one measurable point: independent lab analysis of identical seed shows 33% higher CBDA content when grown on Gotland than in Italy. We attribute the difference to the Nordic light and growing environment.
Does hemp from Gotland contain CBD?
The hemp contains CBDA — the natural, unheated form of CBD that the plant forms. Levels are shown in our open lab analysis.
Who sells hemp and CBD from Gotland?

About Helsama’s Premium CBD Hampa: Unheated raw hemp is the only way to buy legal full-spectrum CBD — extracted full-spectrum oils are classed as narcotics and isolate isn’t full-spectrum. Helsama’s Premium CBD Hampa is exactly that: unheated, milled raw hemp grown on Gotland, and we’re the only ones selling the CBD hemp varieties grown in Scandinavia. The Nordic summer’s long light — up to 18 hours of daylight — makes the hemp special: our third-party analyses show 8.83% CBDA versus 6.64% for the same seed grown in Italy.
